"We Know Who You Are"
Metromail was formerly owned by marketer/printer R.R. Donnelly And Sons,
and is now owned by the Experian credit
bureau. Metromail's mission is to gather personal information on everyone
in America, primarily for their "National Consumer Database"
(NCDB), which could contain information as detailed as your income range,
your children's ages and the brand of coffee you drink.
Metromail attracted negative publicity after a journalist easily
purchased a marketing list of children, including addresses and
ages, using the name of well-known convicted child-killer. They
have also been accused of using voter registration databases for
marketing purposes in a state where it is illegal to do so.
