After a long process of letters to a collection agency and not giving in to there bluff tactics, I continued with the letters and finished with the "validation" request then followed it with the cease and desist letter. A couple of days ago I received a letter from the collection agency stating...

"this account has been cancelled and removed from our files. We have requested the three major credit bureaus to remove this from "Fred's" credit history.

The top of the letter has my name and shows a $0.00 balance.

If you haven't guessed by now...my name is not Fred.

Thought I'd share the good news with you all in the same boat. Hang in there, you can do it too.
