One Account - Multiple Listings

I have had one automobile repossessed. As I expected, my account was immediately reported as a negative to the credit reporting agencies from the original lender. I can live with this (One account one reporting). After six months or so the account was sent to a third party collection agency, who also listed it on my credit report. Another six months or so passed and it was handed off to a different collection company that also listed it on my credit report. Now my credit report communicates "one auto repossession and two collection accounts"

All credit decisions are made using a credit score provided by FICO. Humans do not manually look at credit reports any longer and nothing is explainable.

I was told by a recent credit granter that denied me credit that the single repossession listed on my report was not the reason for my being denied credit, it was the multiple listings from the two seperate collection agencys that lowered my FICO score that they go by.

Is multiple listing legal? Is there anything I can do to remove these items?
