Telecheck

My problem is that back in '97 when I was 17, I had a checking account with my roomate who was 21. She wrote a lot of checks that bounced then took her name off the checking account. Well, I already took care of most of the checks that sued me however, Telecheck says I owe them $800. Well, my question is, since I was not 18 at the time of this incident, am I still liable for these checks? Should Telecheck take me out of there system so I can have a regular checking account again? Any information would be helpful. I've tried talking with Telecheck but it's like talking to a tree.
