The seven years starts initially when the account becomes active. Although there is a separate time limit on a sueing party pursue legal actions against a debtor, which differs state to state. Those time limits are called, the Statutes of Limitations, and there are different types of agreements that are categorized. Somewhere here, you can check them out for your state. Remember, the amount of years an account stays on your credit report, and the amount of years that a plantiff has the right to sue(statutes of limitations) are 2 different things. If you can understand this, you'll be half way to understanding this process. Good luck
