Gulf Coast Credit

My girlfriend and I were trying to buy a house and her part of the loan was denied because of an ATT cable account on her experian credit report. ATT does not have any record of her ever having an account with them and has put that in writing. She does not have bad credit or owe anybody money. This ATT account is not hers. We finally learned here that all correspondence needs to be done in writing because the "customer service" reps at Gulf Coast Credit called her a "lying bitch" on the phone. This whole mess cost us our house.
My question is: What liability does Gulf Coast Credit
have when we prove the account is not hers and we lost the house because of them? Are they required by law to tell me who put this on her credit report?
Thank you.
