BJ,

Strange as it sounds, others I know of who are vistims of identity theft have not been able to do this. It doesn't seem right.

What they tell me is that they had to fill out affidavit after affidavit, file police reports, and do tons of other paperwork. Creditors even refuse to accept the affidavit provided by the FTC's ID theft unit. Each creditor insists on using their own.

These are laws and forms that really need streamlining. No one seems to care that the individual's credit is trashed over and over again, and they are force to repeat this time after time, all at their own expense.

Even the credit bureaus remove the fraud alert after a period of inactivity, and the individual is vulnerable all over again.

One girl did manage to get a CCC to co operate and give police the address that the thieves had used. The police went there and caught the thieves, but then the CCC refused to prosecute them. Since the CCC had written off the loss, the individual whose ID had been stolen was not allowed to bring charges. So they got off scott free. Go figure.....
