What kind of debt is it?

Most likely, this debt is past the statute of limitations. Send them a letter, certified, return receipt, tell them not to contact you again at all.

If they call you, scream at them in German, or act all excited like you think you won a prize - have some fun with it!! They really can't collect it.

They can take you to court (not likely), but if you take your proof, that this debt is as old as you say it is, to court, it will be thrown out. If you don't show up, then it is a whole new ball game - they can get a judgment because you weren't there to present your defense (the statute of limitations).

Collection agencies buy these outdated debts in order to make a profit on them, and hope that you don't know any better than to pay it.

The internet is changing that, LOL.

Oh, check your credit reports, if that is important to you, cause they're probably trying to trash them.
