Don't panic - that's exactly what they want you to do. They want to panic you into paying. DON'T fall for it. I have an attorney after me for 3 years (via letter) to settle things and there is nothing they can do but pursue. If you cave in, then they win, but keep in mind, your credit will still be messed up, so why bother with it at this point? I also had this happen where I "settled" with them and I regret it to this day, cause it is still a negative remark on my report. Just return their letters to "return to sender" and forget about it. If they are trying to collect on a debt that is older the 7 years (check you report to see when the last activity date is), then the credit reporting agencies MUST remove it according to the Consumer Credit Fair Act.
