Debt from years ago

I have a question, I took out a used car loan in 1984 and did not pay on it at the time for economic reasons. I have not heard from the bank in years; now all of a sudden they have sent the old debt to a credit agency out of California claiming they are going to report this to the credit bureaus and that they may sue. I live in northern Ohio, is the statute of limitations up on this? I have perfect credit now and do not want to mess up my credit rating. Thanks for your help
