You have to appear in court the date and time on the summons. If you have proof that the SOL is up, bring it with you. If you don't have proof, you can still go and tell the judge this debt is past the SOL. Then whoever is suing you will have to prove that it isn't.

Bringing your own proof is simpler and takes less time.

Whoever is trying to collect this may try to "settle" with you before you appear in court - just say no, don't let them confuse you - don't even talk to them. They do things like catch you outside the courtroom, and try to weasle the money out of you.

Just tell it to the judge - no one else.
