Okay, well, first, don't talk to the collection agency, except to get the name of the person you are talking to, the company name, and their mailing address. (If they've sent you something in writing already, don't talk to them at all.) Tell them to only contact you by mail from now on. Then don't talk to them anymore (most of them will ignore what you say). They are tricky, and their intention is to scare you to death. So just hange up, or use your answering machine to screen calls. If they really are going to do anything to you, you will get a notice in the mail, first, so don't be afraid to hang up on them.

Now, what state are you living in presently? Was your husband authorized to use that card, or was it a joint account?

Sorry for what you've been through. However, you've probably already been through the worst stuff that can happen to someone, so this will be a piece of cake ;)

The statute of limitations in CO is 6 years, so chances are this went delinquent a long time ago, and these collectors cannot do anything to you anyway.

Linda
