Help!!! How many times can a judgement be renewed in NY state?

Following a payment dispute with a local College in the early 1990's, I had refused to pay the ALLEDGED OUTSTANDING BALANCE. In late Nov 1991, a judgment of $470 was issued against me.

This judgment remained in my credit report until sometimes in 1997 or early 1998. After it was taken off, I was able to obtain numerous credit cards, and lines of credit, incuding a personal loan. I pay all my bills on time, and currently I do not have any problem with my credit report.

However, a couple of weeks ago, a message from a collection agency was left on my phone. I called back the number, and ask what this was all about. I was told that I have an outstanding balance with the College in the amount of $900. I tried to explain to them that I have not attended this college in over 10 years. I was ask to leave my phone, so they could retrieve my file, and get in touch with me

I then called the College and spoke the same person that I argued with regarding this payment. She was very vindictive towards me on the phone, and she told me that even thru this was no longer on my credit report, SHE WOULD RENEW THE JUDGEMENT.

The calls from the collection have not stop. Today, I received a letter from them. Per the information on the "STATUTE OF LIMITATION ON JUDGEMENTS" posted on this site, it says that for NY state, the Statute of Limitations is 10 years.

This coming Nov 15, 2001 will mark the 10 years period. DOES THIS MEANS THAT I WILL BE FREE OF THIS BY NEXT MONTH? OR WILL THIS END UP AGAIN IN MY CREDIT REPORT FOR ANOTHER 7 YEARS. IF SO, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS AT THIS POINT? AND HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY ABILITY TO OBTAIN NEW CREDIT AND/OR INCREASE MY CREDIT LIMITS IN THE FUTURE.
