Good thinking.

I have emailed an acquaintance who is an attorney in NYC asking for a referral for you. I will get back to you as soon as I hear. I am also having to find one in PA from my attorney (for someone else), so I will ask him for a referral. Sit tight. You may be contacted here - some attorneys check these boards from time to time.

Talk to them all and see who you feel comfortable with.

As far as grounds, it sounds like you didn't believe you owed the money. An attorney will most likely check that out and then check the actual original judgment (look at the paperwork) to see if it can be vacated. That's just a lay guess ;)

The reason for getting an attorney is that they know things we don't ("we" includes me). I just know enough to know when I need one, hehe, and that it is worth the money - as you are finding out. Better to do it before the "bad" thing happens. It's kind of like insurance - we'd rather spend our money on a vacation, or a new whatever, LOL.

The key thing here is to get one who is sympathetic with consumers. There are attorneys who are not - you don't want one of those!

So this may take a day or two, don't panic if you don't hear from me right away.

Linda
