Credit Bureaus can report these for 7 years from the date of last activity (the last time you paid) + 180 days.

I don't know when you finished paying them off, but with the current system, you are penalized much longer than someone who just disappears and doesn't pay at all, or someone who takes bankruptcy.

However, the law gives you the right to dispute items on your credit report. You can actually dispute online at the credit bureau's websites. Just don't say things that are blatantly untrue. Find little inconsistencies and dispute them that way. There are some letters you can use at http://mix6.com/credit - they're free, just scroll all the way down to see them.

There are also some very good books on this site (I don't work here), that will give you advice on rebuilding your credit. The one title "Guaranteed Credit" comes highly recommended.

Good luck.

Linda
