Credit Card Balance Default due to person moving Abroad

My girlfriend has moved to Brazil to live there permanently.She has a debt of around $5000 on 3 credit cards.How will she make payments and what will happen if she is unable to pay?How will credit card co.s recover their money?Is there any international collection agencies?
