sorry, here's the whole message
I'll try to keep this short. I need some help with this.
I recently received an "attempt to collect a debt" notice from a "purchaser of consumer loan accounts." It is for a Citibank Visa that first became deliquent in 1996. I checked my credit reports and it has been sold two previous times before now. It has been continuously reported as "open" by experian, and, if I'm reading this right, Equifax. The original $1656 debt is now $4732 according to the new collection agency.
I would like to wait until the 7 year SOL runs out in 2003. But now I'm wondering if I should try to negotiate with the collection agency. I guess my big question is, Can they continue to list this account as "Open" when they suspended my credit privileges in 1996.
Thanks, Paul
