Sounds like you got flim flammed. You can complain to your state's attorney general, they may be able to help you. At least the can stop this person from doing this to someone else. Don't pay any more money to these parasites. Ignore them - play dead. Change your phone number to unlisted, unpublished, send the mail back, or just trash it. Keep your cancelled checks.

Also, for future reference, never call a collection agency - they get your phone number rom your call. If you send them checks, they may take money out of your bank account. Just don't deal with them, unless you are sending "the letters."
