If you're current and the balances are not dropping, it means you're still using them. You'll never get'em down like that. You need to draw up a atrict budget, put the cards in the sock drawer, and begin to live below your means. That's the only way out other than bk.
For the ammounts that you've listed, I promise you your friend is wrong. They or a collection agency will eventually file a lawsuit should you stop paying.
