Question about garnishing and self-employment.

I live in Florida and want to know my options. I have credit card debt that I've been working my rear off to pay and the balances are going down so slowly that I see no end in sight. They were cut up about 4 years ago and I use cash or do without now. I am self-employed but as an independent contractor with a large company that does direct deposit with my checks and another smaller company who sends me a pay check every 2 weeks. I am married but the credit cards were mine before that and have never had hubby's name on them. If I quit paying and the creditors get a judgement, are they able to garnish my pay? How about my husband's pay? Also, what happens when you are sent a letter that you are being sued? Do you then have a little time to work out payments or do you just have to go to court. I'm considering seeing if they'll write me off, but one is Discover card and I hear they're very aggressive. Thanks in advance.
