Debt Negotiation/Settlement Opinions?

I owe $20,000 in credit card debt. Is Debt Settlement a good option or will it do more harm than good? After fees and taxes do you really save a bunch of money? Will it totally hose my credit? Should I just pay the full $20,000 instead of trying to settle for a lower amount. Please post your advice and opinions. Thanks a Ton in advance. Terry
