The collection agency either is a lawyer or has a lawyer on retainer, or is lying. Could be any of these. Either way, you can contact Discover if you want to. There collection people will tel you anything. If their lips are moving they're lying. As far as the house, they can take you to court and get a judgment, then they can place a lien against the property so that if you ever sell it, they get their money. But if they take you to court, you must bk this. If you take bk I don't know whether the homestead exemption applies if you are not living in the house. Go talk to a bk lawyer - he/she can advise you on that. You need to see if your qulaify anyhow. The first consultation is free.
