YOu'd have to read your state laws, but generally speaking, an agreement to pay. Some states say "in writing" others say any agreement to pay. Also leaving the state can stop the SOL - like adding time to it.

almost all state laws about this are outlined in plain English. If it isn't you have to click on the "statutes" linke and actually read the laws. So, it's different in different states.
