Checking account

Due to problems with an old girlfriend writing checks and signing my name (major understatement), I can't get a checking account anywhere. I also had a paycheck bounce a while back and am still paying for that one. The resulting bounced checks are covered, but I REFUSE to give TeleChek ANY fees because they attempted to "double-dip." What I mean by this is, I made arrangements to send them the money to pay for a check, but luckily never sent the money! I put the money in the account and found out later that Telecheck sent the check through again, aparently on the same day I made the arrangements! So, now they have me in their system as owing them their $30 fee. I have no intention on paying them this because of what they did.

So... how can I get a checking account with all these things hanging over my head? Is it possible? I don't want to open an account with a huge amount, as I'm recovering from a 5 week layoff.

Thanks in advance for the help.
