I was just served today (at least the court was closed on thanksgiving..your assesment on collection attorneys is correct.) I have a debt from Capitol One that defaulted on 7/98. My credit profile in the past 7 years hasn't been the one that creditors would even call a D+ rating(still isnt a B-) I have come into my own, money wise in the past year, now the wolves are hunting. I just got this #*&! summons today and Im flabergasted NOW WHAT? the original debt was only $800+ at default because of my credit limit(I found some old letters/statements from C.O.) this attorney says that its NOW $2300.. WHAT???? How is that possible? Like everyone else I blew off the 30 day validity thing. whats my next move? An attorney or negoiate this myself? The SOL is 6yrs in my state (Mich) Help ?
