YOu've engaged in some activity that got their attention. They know you have money. They can locate assets prior to bringing suit. However, the amount they are suing you for is ridiculous. I would rather pay an attorney to pare this down to the original amount plus court costs and attorneys fees, than give it to them. If you go to court by yourself you won't fare as well as you will with an attorney.

I don't see any way out of paying - you should never ignore this stuff, especially if you have something they can take.

Whatever you do, GO TO COURT. If you don't they win automatically, and they already know where your money is. They will just take it.

I would take a lawyer and pay him to pick their paperwork to pieces - they will not be expecting that!

Afterwards, perhaps you can have the judgment vacated on a technicality and get it off your credit reports.

You could also offer to settle before the court date. Make them an offer, or have an attorney make one for you. Beware if you do this, they will let the court date stand so they ruin your credit. Make sure the court date is at least continued, and later dismissed.
