Statute of Limitations please help!!

How do I find out what state's statute of limitations to go by? The problem is we received a summons from a company that purchased our original debt, the last date of activity is 6/96 for the original debtor, the purchaser says 8/96 we incurred the debt in Wash(3 year statute) but moved to calif in 1/97 they have a 4 year statute and in 6/2000 we moved to Ohio who has a 6 year statute. I need to know if I can use the SOL defense for this. Can anyone help me???
