Kellie, I think you are getting two different things mixed up. The SOL is the legal length of time that a creditor can actually make you pay. It varies from state to state.

The thing you are talking about is the length of time a derogatory item can be reported on your credit report - that is always 7 years + 180 days from the initial date of continuous delinquency. Except in NY where it is 5 years. (yayyy New York)!!

So no this doesn't have to come off your report. However, you can always dispute it. Christmas is a very good time for disputing - they are overworked and understaffed then.
