Credit report error. Need help fixing.

I got my credit report a couple months ago and disputed a few incorrect items. They fixed all but one and the one was an error that a payment was NOT ever 30 days late, but the report says it was. Well, they investigated and said it had a current balance 60 days late and there has not been a balance on that account in over 3 years. How can I now be 60 days late on JCPenney when I haven't even used it in 3 years and it had a balance of 0 when I paid it off? I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know now how to communicate to the credit reporting agency that not only is the original information correct, but their checking into it, made it WORSE! Any help would be great. I will draft a letter to them as soon as someone gives me an idea of what it should say. Thanks very much in advance. Sarah
