I bet you're getting tired of hearing from me, but I thought I owed you one more update. I called these folks again and told them I would not accept the "settled" designation. They said the only way to avoid that was to pay the full balance, which is what I fully intended to do anyway -- after all, I wasn't trying to get away with paying less. That's not exactly doing what's right, you know. BUT, they were the ones to make the offer to pay a lesser amount. They just failed to explain how badly that action affects a credit record. But like you say, they are not concerned about a customer's record being trashed.
Anyway, I agreed to pay 100% of the outstanding balance owed. Before paying, however, they will send me another letter ( a form letter ) that states my agreement to pay $$$$ which will pay the account In Full. Also, the payment will result in the account being reported to the CRAs as Account Paid In Full -- Zero Balance. The account is already reported as Closed By Consumer -- I asked for it to be closed some time back. So now I wait for their letter ( probably about 7 days or so )then I will look it over and make sure I agree with it. If so, I will pay the full amount and hopefully have this stuff behind me.
They did state that the time was getting close ( the 180 days before P&L Write-Off I suppose ) and that I "might" get a summons or other legal form from their attorney in the mean-time. I informed her that she or her supervisor should stop that crap before it happens. She said she was just trying to prepare me in case it did. Well, we'll just have to wait and see.
Anyway, I sure appreciate your coaching, comments, and helpful attitude. You're a real blessing and comforter in a time of need and distress ! Now, what can I do to help you ? Surely, there is something you need or someway I can try to repay all your kindness and work ! Please let me know.
