The only way to handle this matter by paying them off is to use a money order and a properly worded restrictive endorsement on the back which upon cashing creates a legal and binding contract for them to take it off your report entirely. If they fail to perform on the contract they violate and are liable for suit.

I can help you with the restrictive endorsement and if they refuse the check then you simply go to battle with them and force them to negate the debt and take it off too. Either way you win. If they refuse the Money order with restrictive endorsement you can win on that grounds alone.
