I recently contacted a debt collector in order to start
paying a medical debt I incurred in February of 1996. When I asked how I might set about repaying the debt the representative responded that the only payment scheme they had was a 12 month schedule for repayment in full. Can't I just send them whatever money I can spare each month without entering into some kind of legally binding agreement? Would it be easier to deal with the original creditor directly if I can?
