Yes, you are, but if this was not all in writing, USPS, certified, return receipt - proof that they got it, you are going to have a hard time suing them.

You can send certified RR mail form the USPS website. After you dispute the debt, the must prove it is yours or they cannot continue to collect. Read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. That is your Bible.

If you can prove your facts, you can sue them for violating Federal law.
