I had an account with Sears. I got divorced in 1996 and called/contacted all my creditors and worked out payments, reduced rates ect. BUT Sears would NOT budge! I had written several letters in the past years asking for help with no luck. I finally was sent to a collection agency. They initially called up saying they were lawyers. The man was mean, rude and everything else demanding payment! He called me at work and ended up upsetting me terribly. They ask if you can get a loan from work, friends or family, do you won property, if you go to court they will garnish your wages. They wanted $350.00 a month from me! I am a single Mom just barely getting by and I said I could pay $100 max a month..they said that was not acceptable! Can they deny any form of payment? I, being in the media field, contacted several financial people and I sent a letter asking for proof of the debt and for them NOT to call me at work...they have called 4 TIMES since the letter! I was served a summons for court..I am so terrified about that! I can not afford a lawyer and I do not know what to do! This is interesting too.. I live in an apartment and I was downstairs at the neighbors. The guy knocked on her door looking for me! I got the papers and he had said something about my door being open. I went upstairs and he had left in a hurry, my front door was WIDE OPEN! The guy went into my apartment! I can't prove this of course to file breaking and entering but it scared me!! I need advice, I am ready to file bankruptcy to avoid all of this! Every time those people call they harrass me and now I have to go to court...a judge is not going to listen to me, I am the one who owes all the money! Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
