After agreeing, on the phone, to pay a creditor the full balance owed on a credit card account to settle it and be done with it, the creditor sent me a letter confirming our conversation, listing the amount due, and also listing an address to which I was to mail the payment. The address was a PO Box. Due to the time allowed to get the payment there, I sent the payment as Express Mail, next day delivery, and Return Receipt Requested. The P O attempted delivery on 12-22-2001 and of course, with this being a P O Box, no one was there to sign and receive the mail. The P O informed me that they place a notice in the Box for whoever picks up the mail that they need to come to the front counter to sign for & get the item. As of 12-29-2001 (one week later) no one has made any attempt to sign for and pick up my payment. What are these people up to ? Are they playing games with me or could it be that they are too stupid to read notices from the P O ? They wanted this payment and encouraged promptness, but they apparently don't their payment too badly ? I called the creditor, and all they would say is that I should not have sent something to that P O Box that had to be signed for. Sorry Charlie, I like things to be documented ! Anyway, does anybody have any thoughts about this situation ? Haven't I made every reasonable effort to get a payment to these folks and they just don't care to accept it ? Should I try some other method to pay these people, or should I just forget it since they don't seem interested enough sign for their mail ? What's the old saying about leading a horse to water but you can't make him drink ? I've put the payment they demanded practically at their "back door" -- it's waiting for them at the Post Office, but they have to accept it in order for the account to be satisfied. Thanks. Mike
