Credit Card debt.......????

I had a serious back injury at work last year and was off work with out pay for 6mths when my worker's comp claim was disputed. During this time I used my citibank card for everything. I had a 5500 revolving limit and charged up $8000, which is now in collections since August, and my balance since then has jumped to $9100. My no 1 concern is how long until I will have to appear in court or have my wages garnished,or can I stop this from happening my sending the collection agency some money now???. Also, how, if at all, can I get this removed from my credit report, and what kind of settlement should I expect. I guess I really just dont know what I should do, I can now afford to send in a few hundred dollars a month, but I am scared to call them. The collection agency has been verbally abusing my family, and even cursing at my 14 yr old sister, and I don't know what to do!!!!
