Civil Judgement

I have two civil judgement dated 5/96 & 7/96 for totaling $5300. I just came to knowledge when I applied for mortgage. I got approved but was told to cleared Judgement and get a copy. I was also told that total could be lot more than $5300 (interest). My credit report say that those two judgements will be removed form my credit report on 5/03.
My question is does this mean that they will be erased form court also??? I do not mind paying $5300 - $6500 as long as they get removed form my credit report. What should be best step toward this mess???judgements are in NJ....
