Tell us which cards and which banks - you can email if you'd rather not post it here. It could be that one bank was acquired by the other bank, and you are unaware of the relationship. For instance Bank One and First USA.

So in that case, it could happen. Most checking account agreements state (in the finest print available) that if you owe that bank money - like some kine of line of credit - they may take it from your checking account if you haven't made your regular monthly payment on time.
