Be very careful about paying an unverified debt. Some collection companies have debts assigned,some have purchased and "own" the debt.Some have purchased blocks of debts. Mistakes and fraud can occur.A debt,(assigned),can be collected on,and the creditor doesn't get the money.a reseller of debts can sell the same account to two different collection companies,(there is a registry now,but many of the bottom feeders don't bother) In short, without verification,including "chain of title" if it is owned by the collection company,don't pay. You could wind up still owing the $$.
