The CC company will definitly lie to you, also ! They want money, they want the matter settled and they will tell you all sorts of crap to get what they want. That is, they will tell you only what they want you to know that favors them in the matter, they will make promises, mostly verbal so in case you don't record the message they're not obligated, and they will be real nice about it, especially if they think that you're close to sending money or settling the account with them. I've had them send me, in writing, a letter telling me that "settling" my account with them will reflect positively on my credit record and that my record will indicate "Settled Account". If it hadn't been for the kindness of Linda, ( on this board ) I would have fallen for that crap. "Settled" does NOT reflect positively on your record ! But they DON'T CARE ! They've gouged you with unreasonable and ridiculous credit terms and now they want to add insult to injury by making your credit record look as bad as possible. I've learned my lesson the costly way -- I will no longer show them ANY respect. They don't appreciate it and they certainly don't deserve it! As far as I'm concerned, creditors with unreasonable credit terms are like cancer, and cancer thanks its host by destroying it. And that's exactly what unreasonable creditors with unreasonable credit terms are -- cancer !
