What you will be dealing with is this: If an account of yours (joint with ex) defaults, it will go on your report, and they will come after you for payment. Legally that's all they are allowed to do.

What they actually do is something else entirely. They may see the joint accounts with new wife, ding her report up with inquiries figuring out what they can get using her as leverage, and put the derogatory accounts on her report as well. It's not legal, but they do it all the time. Of course, when sued, it was all a "mistake."

If you did not pay off the account (if the ex defaults for you) and they come after you, if could conceivably involve jointly held assets with the new wife.

Nothing is "cut and dried" in this life.
