In many cases you can take the car away from him. Then you can figure a way to pay off the loan yourself and sell the car (or keep it and drive it). Go see a magistrate.

If that doesn't work, sue him yourself. Make his life hell.

And by all means, learn your lesson the first time. You wouldn't want to go through this again. :)
