I would send validation letter to the collection agency, wait until you get the return receipt back, and then dispute with the credit bureau.

If the credit bureau doesn't remove it, you can sue them both in small claims court.

If you have a copy of your old report, or a copy of an old bill, all the better.

If you have been turned down for credit because of this, you can get a lawyer and sue for damages.
