Gulfstate is one of the most unscrupulous collection agencies there is - not to mention that they are known for violating federal collection statutes. #1 - you need to have this debt verified in writing. Your request for verification should be in writing by certified return receipt mail - DO NOT TALK WITH THEM ON THE PHONE -period. You should dispute this debt as well if you do not know what it is for - again, by certified return receipt mail with the Big 3 credit bureaus. Look through these other posts. Linda has sample letters. Do they even mention who the creditor is?
