Need help quick: wife's hospital bill

My wife had a medical emergence half year ago, and I called 911 and admitted her into hospital. My insurance covered her, and paied about $2000, now still owe the hospital $700, they threating to sue me. My wife is a full time student and no job, so I thought she should not pay, but they billed me ! Can they sue me on this? Anyone know the answer?
