What state are you in? This debt could be past the statute of limitations. Don't pay anything yet. Wait and see what the collection attorney does. Chances are they cannot prove the debt is yours. Not only that, but these are charged off debts, the lawyer has purchased for pennies on the dollar and is trying to make a profit.

If you are giving him static, he will probably go after someone who is more naive and doesn't take up his time with validation letters.
