Telling people to take bankruptcy is about the worst advice you can give. Telling people to become deadbeats isn't so whuppy swift either. Nobody really has to go bankrupt and doing so will stay on your records for 10 years if you go to a lawyer and file your bankruptcy. If you know how you can cloak your bankruptcy and the credit bureaus can't find out about it but creditors can. If you know how to do it, you can also keep everything and pay nothing in bankruptcy. If you don't know how or you hire some dumb lawyer to file it for you then you might lose everything and get a hickey on your reports too.

I do the paperwork for lots of people filing bankruptcy and none of them ever lost anything nor did they ever show up on credit bureaus. I try to keep them from doing it, but some folks just can't see it any other way so they do it.

There are lots of alternatives much better then filing bankruptcy.
