My story - update

Well, here's how it's going. I fought back by contacting the lawyer who sent the summons. I told him I believed the SOL had run out, that the Collection Agency was in violation of the FDCPA, and yet I was willing to try and settle. In exchange for a "paid as agreed" mark on my credit report I offered them $1000 for each account. The original summons was seeking over $7000 because of interest.

They accepted!

So, I saved myself $5000, am getting a good mark on my credit report, AND I didn't have to pay their outrageeuos interest charges.

My question though, is, was this poker or chess? Did I checkmate them with the SOL and that's why they agreed to the settlement? Or is it poker, and they had no hope to collect but I folded and made an offer despite the SOL being my champion?

I'll probably never know...
