Which way is best?How do I begin to repair credit?

I am 26 from Ohio.I have 1 civil judgment enterd on 5/96 for $306.00,appx 3 charge offs totaling appx.3,500 all together.Appx 3 accounts(2 loans & 1 cc) all closed & paid as agreed.I also owe 1,300 on the bal. on a leased car I turned in 2 mo. early & the bal is from past due pmts.Turned car in this past summer.Appx 2,000 in med bills on thier way to collection.Unable to have ckng acct.Owe for 2 cks & 300 in fees to bnk.Most debts are from 96-97.med bls & car issue are most recent.Total debt old&new appx 8,000.Considered ch7 bk.to be free & clear but think that may be more harmful than good.Can't keep on doing nothing.I need to clear debt some how & re-est credit.single mom....PLEASE HELP.ANY INPUT GREATLY APPRECIATED>
