Denied employment

I was recently denied employment due to information in my credit report. I won't deny I had problems in the mid-90's with my finances, but a large settlement check in late 98 paid off all my debt - some charged off, but still all paid - mostly to collection agencies.

I have been trying to contact the HR person to get the name, address, and number of the CRA they used, but they refuse to call me back. How long do they have to provide me with this information?

Most of the inaccurate information is from the orginal creditors. I have carbon checks and my bank statements showing the checks cleared, but they are for the collection agency - anyone else run into this problem?

This is the first time I have had to correct anything in my report so any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
